BASF presented $1,000 to STEM School Chattanooga in support of its STEAM education curriculum.

BASF in Chattanooga donated $1,000 to five high schools in Chattanooga to support each school’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) education curriculum. The donations help local students achieve their educational goals in these fields. The five recipients of BASF’s donation are: Central High, Hamilton County Virtual School, STEM School Chattanooga, Tyner Academy and Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts. At least one student from each of these schools participated in BASF’s TECH Academy, a free, week-long education and workforce development program designed to introduce students to technical and craft careers through skills classes, workshops and industry tours. BASF hosts TECH Academy annually and works in collaboration with Chattanooga State Community College. “This donation will go towards STEAM activities in our Biology and Scientific Research classes. The impact will allow students access to quality materials while fostering their critical thinking in scientific pursuits,” said Jim David, Principal at STEM School Chattanooga. “We appreciate BASF for providing our students the opportunity to be part of TECH Academy. Allowing students real-world experiences with professionals in their field is an unmatched learning opportunity.” BASF’s TECH Academy encourages students to explore and apply knowledge across various fields of study, including manufacturing, robotics, engineering and more. Through STEAM activities, students develop critical thinking, problem solving and creativity, all of which are essential skills in a rapidly developing world. “We believe in the power of education and how it can shape the future,” said Brittany Davis, Operations Manager at BASF Chattanooga. “Being able to nurture a student’s passion for innovation is one of the best things about the work we do through TECH Academy and community support. If our investment could give us just one future engineer, welder, process technician or leader, then we will have considered our job a success.” TECH Academy is part of BASF’s STEAM education and workforce development efforts in North America to support industry growth and regional investment. Applications for next year’s TECH Academy will open in early 2024. For more information about the program, visit bit.ly/techacademycha2023.
